International Tax Expert Can Doğrusöz warned football players about taxes. Speaking to Akşam newspaper, Doğrusöz stated that especially the local players are in a state of negligence and confusion in this regard.
Here are those words…
“Provisional Article 72 of the Income Tax Law, which regulates the filing of tax returns by football players, has been extended until 31.12.2028 with the omnibus law in the official gazette published on 28 December 2023.”
“The legal regulation stipulates that 20 percent of the tax should be paid by the club and the other 20 percent by the football player. Football players think that they will be relieved of this responsibility by having a clause stating ‘The club pays the entire tax’ in their contracts. Contracts cannot be above the law, so even if there is such a clause, they cannot be freed from liability.” “However, after paying the tax, they can file another lawsuit against the club on this issue. However, it is worth noting that not only salaries, but also success bonuses and performance bonuses (goals, number of matches) are wages and are subject to tax.”
