Tavi (9) from de Wijk runs 100 kilometers for an assistance dog: ‘My father has PTSD’

Run, run and run some more. Nine-year-old Tavi is in full training. From July 21, he will run 5 kilometers every day until he reaches 100 kilometers. He does this to raise money for Stichting Assistentiehond-Gelderland.

“My father used to go through very bad things, and that gave him PTSD,” says Tavi. Such an assistance dog can be very helpful. “Daddy had some kind of seizure the other day. And then the dog distracts Daddy so he has to think about her and give her attention. And then it gets better.”

The money that Tavi collects is intended for people who need a service dog, but are not reimbursed for it. And those 100 kilometers don’t just fall out of the blue. The training of an assistance dog takes 100 weeks.
