One week ago on Tuesday Portuguese Bernardo Tavares left Helsinki behind. Tavares, who was hired as the head coach of HIFK, who plays in the Veikkausliiga, was appointed to the position at the end of December.
HIFK said in a statement that Tavares resigned on family grounds.
However, a special announcement was heard on Monday: Tavares was hired as the head coach of the Indonesian PSM Makassar.
Whether the HIFK was pulled, many wondered.
– We have certain values in HIFK. Of course, when someone invokes family reasons and wants to leave, we cannot force him or her to stay.
– Tavares himself was proactive. Family reasons are always a serious reason, and you have to believe in people. One of our principles is to trust people, says the sports director of HIFK Mika Lönnström.
Even before IFK, the Portuguese had several shorter coaching sessions from around the world.
Several foreign assistant coaches arrived in Helsinki with Tavares. According to Lönnström, they will continue in their duties normally.
The application process for a new head coach is progressing.
