The German lugers narrowly missed out on another victory at the start of the new year.
At the World Cup in Winterberg, Julia Taubitz took second place as the best German starter and was only beaten by the Austrian Madeleine Egle with a gap of 0.029 seconds. Her compatriot Hannah Prock came third (+0.305).
Taubitz, who won the last two races before Christmas, defended her lead in the overall World Cup ahead of Egle with second place. In Whistler, Canada, the German women had achieved a triple success in the last race before the turn of the year, but they couldn’t quite build on that at the first home World Cup of the season.
World champion Anna Berreiter missed the podium in fourth place by just seven thousandths of a second. U23 world champion Merle Fräbel, third in Whistler, only came twelfth.
Jessica Degenhardt and Cheyenne Rosenthal had previously celebrated success in the doubles. The world champions took first place on Saturday and secured their second win of the season.
Dajana Eitberger and Saskia Schirmer came in fourth place.
