Tatjana Maria was assigned a difficult opponent in the draw for the Bad Homburg Open.
Last year’s Wimbledon semi-finalist meets Polish Iga Swiatek in the first round. The world number one has just won the French Open.
“Tatjana against Iga, that could also be a final match,” said ex-player Andrea Petkovic, who acted as lucky fairy in the draw. Maria (35) is currently playing in a smaller tournament in Italy, where she made it into the semi-finals on Friday.
Jule Niemeier had to withdraw from the tournament organized by Angelique Kerber in Bad Homburg because of her wrist injury. For them, Anna-Lena Friedsam moves into the main draw with a wild card and plays against Mayar Sherif from Egypt. Former Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki meets Lin Zhu of China in the first round.
