Tatjana Maria won her third WTA title in Bogota. Colombia occupies a permanent place in the life of her world-travelling family.
Tatjana Maria celebrated her successful title defense with her loved ones. The whole family came to the court after Bogota’s final triumph: the older daughter Charlotte in a tennis outfit, little Cecilia with a pacifier in her mouth and Maria’s proud husband and coach Charles-Edouard.
The Marias are a world-traveling family clan, when they stop for a longer period of time, then in West Palm Beach, Florida. This is where the native of Upper Swabia found her base. But at least in terms of sport, she feels at home in Colombia. “I think we should buy a house nearby for our lives,” Maria joked after the 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 final against Peyton Stearns (USA).
Two baby breaks, three titles
Maria has been traveling the world with the WTA Tour for more than 16 years, two baby breaks are behind her, she has now won three titles. On Sunday she repeated her success from 2022 at the clay court tournament in Bogota, and she also won on grass in Mallorca in 2018. The family inspires Maria (35), traveling together is not a burden, Charlotte (9) has developed into a stable impact partner with her own professional ambitions. Last year, the clan carried its boss to the Wimbledon semi-finals, this season the family continues to tinker – even on smaller stages.
Now it’s off to the old home for the WTA tournament in Stuttgart
Maria won an ITF tournament in India in January – and outclassed the competition. At the WTA level, it worked in Bogota, and she takes a vase home with her as a trophy. However, it won’t find its way into the Marias’ living room any time soon. First it goes to the old homeland, to the WTA tournament in Stuttgart. The family travels with you, of course.
