JAnnik Sinner is the sports personality of the moment. But maybe even more. Yes, because after seeing the dream of winning at the last minute fade away ATP Finals (he lost in the final against Novak Djokovic), contributed in a fundamental way – both in singles and doubles – to the conquest of the Davis Cup by the Italian national team. And on that occasion she demonstrated, once again, that she has a big and pure heart.
Sinner’s thoughts: Tathiana Garbin and her operation
After having raised the Davis Cup to the sky (this is the second Italian victory, 47 years after the first), the Italian tennis player wanted to dedicate this very important milestone to the technical commissioner of the women’s Italtennis, Tathiana Garbin. The woman, in fact, underwent surgery last Monday, November 27, due to a rare tumor.
The 22 year old champion said: «Tomorrow (November 27, ed) is an important day for Tathiana, Let’s hope this victory can give her strength. We will all be with her».
Sinner: «It’s nice to win but what matters in life is something else»
Sinner’s dedication continued. «Here we talk about winning the Davis Cup, yes, that’s nice, history is being made. And we are all happy. But what matters in life is something else. We should feel very fortunate to be in this position that we are and will all be with her».
It is not the first time that the technical commissioner has had to face such a challenge. Indeed Tathiana Garbin had already undergone surgery once for this rare tumor.
The captain of the Italian team also sent his sympathy to Garbin, Filippo Volandri. «We have always written to each other, I have never seen so much tennis at home as during the Billie Jean King Cup (the women’s tennis tournament for nations, ed). My very best good luck goes to Tati».
Tathiana Garbin: illness and affection from her athletes
It was Tathiana Garbin herself who communicated the need for a second operation (we are not talking about a recurrence but about an operation that was already planned from the beginning of the treatment), right at the end of the final of the Billie Jean King Cup (which Italy lost against Canada). «The specialists told me that it happens to one person in a million. But I’m a lucky woman, I have people around me who love me. I know I’m not alone», he said.
As reported by The nation, the operation would have been performed in the Cisanello hospital in Pisa. And they would have rushed to the captain’s side all the girls of the blue tennis teamto express their closeness and sincere support to her.
