Tata Steel is not affected by Russian coal import ban

tata Steel does not think it will encounter any problems if the European Union imposes an import ban on Russian coal. The company will buy the coal needed for steel production in other countries.

The European Commission is preparing an import ban on Russian coal as part of a fifth sanctions package. A large part of the coal consumed in the Netherlands comes from President Putin’s country.

No problems for production

It is not known what percentage of this ends up with Tata Steel. But it does not cause problems for production, according to a spokesperson. “We haven’t been buying the coal from Russia since the war broke out. There’s no problem getting it from other countries.”

Coincidentally, a cargo ship unloaded Russian coal in the port of the steel company today. This ship was already en route when Russia invaded Ukraine. Because of that raid, the ship took longer to travel to IJmuiden.
