Serena Bouman Uit Den Helder lost her Chevrolet Kalos last weekend due to a fire in the car next to hers. She was not reimbursed, so sister Claudia Pietens started a fundraising campaign. NH Nieuws visited the sisters and more than the target amount has now been raised for a new car.
“I was totally surprised,” Serena says when she thinks about all the donations made in the last few days. The news that she would not get anything back from the insurance – despite the fact that the arson was not aimed at her car – hit her very hard. She had no money for a new car, so every euro was welcome.
Her sister Claudia came up with the idea to set up a donation campaign and that ultimately resulted in more than 2,200 euros. And that is a lot more than the target amount of 1,500 euros. “Then it will be granted to you,” says Serena, moved, “And I never expected that.”

At the beginning of next week, the total amount will be paid to Serena. But she’s already busy looking. “I hope we can find something next week, but I’m already looking online to see what’s there,” says Serena happily. She does not have many requirements: “I would like a small car and not privately, but through a garage”, she explains.

Serena can’t quite grasp it yet, but is very grateful for all the support. “It’s nice that there are still many people who think about someone else, that makes the world a little more beautiful.”
