Tanks kidnapped from the Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten?

A sensational video has been circulating online since Friday: It shows a group of activists kidnapping the tanks from the Soviet War Memorial in Berlin!

With two tractors they tow the old tanks away on heavy chains in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate. As you can see in the clip. TV stations reportedly reported in “Breaking News” about the hijacked weapons of war.

But the whole video is only staged! An artistic and admonishing appeal by the Ukrainian citizens’ initiative “Vitsche eV”

Background: According to the club, the two tanks were manufactured in Kharkiv in what is now Ukraine. In 1945, they helped defeat the Nazis in Berlin, according to the initiative. In 2022 they would be needed to protect Kharkiv from attacks by Putin’s army. “If the federal government doesn’t want to give us German tanks, we at least want our own back,” the Ukrainian activists demand.

“Of course we didn’t destroy or damage the tank,” emphasizes Yelyzaveta Plitkova from “Vitsche”.

But they also want to stimulate a discussion: “In Berlin there is not a single monument commemorating the Allied victory over the Third Reich, but there are two monuments dedicated to the soldiers of the Red Army, the Russian soldiers and Stalin.”

The victory over National Socialism was a collective effort by all Allies.
