Tank truck on fire on A16 after collision, highway closed

Two trucks collided on the A16 just after the Belgian border. According to the ANWB, one of the vehicles is a tanker that caught fire after the accident. The highway is closed in both directions.

It is still unclear what exactly happened and whether there were any injuries. A large gray plume of smoke can be seen in the distance.

‘Enormously high flames’
According to a 112 correspondent of Omroep Brabant, the flames were ‘extremely high’ in the beginning. The fire was largely extinguished around a quarter past two, says the 112 correspondent.

It is still unclear what exactly the tanker was transporting. In any case, the verge also caught fire during the fire. Fire and police are present with several vehicles.

Detour
Because the highway is closed in both directions, the accident leads to many delays. Traffic that wants to go to Belgium is advised to drive via Bergen op Zoom.

It is not known when the road will reopen.
