The expensive shock just doesn’t want to end! Inflation has continued to rise in Berlin – to 8.6 percent now. All the more reason why motorists are hoping for relief from the tank discount that will apply from Wednesday.
Because the energy tax is now falling for three months and makes a liter of petrol (E10) 35 cents cheaper and diesel 16.7 cents cheaper.
But: At many petrol pumps, the price per liter has recently risen sharply. And not every gas station will lower prices immediately!
On Tuesday, a liter of petrol (E10) in Berlin still cost an average of 2.15 euros (as of 3 p.m.). After the tank discount, the liter could then be 1.80 euros. “In Berlin we expect an average price of 1.85 euros and cheaper,” says Duraid El Obeid, President of the Federal Association of Independent Gas Stations. Despite the relief, there is still one thing above all: disappointment! Because a year ago, the liter of Super E10 cost an average of 1.49 euros.
The situation is similar with diesel. The price per liter was an average of 2.03 euros yesterday (as of 3 p.m.). A year ago it was 1.34 euros.
And: If you have to fill up at traditionally expensive gas stations such as Aral in Grunewald, you will notice the discount even less. A liter of petrol cost 2.51 euros here yesterday (as of 1 p.m.). After the discount, the price should still be a whopping 2.16 euros.
There should also be disillusionment at the gas stations that still have fuel in their storage tanks. This was purchased at the old tax rate and can therefore continue to be sold at the higher rate.
“We will initially see different prices,” said association boss El Obeid. “After a few days, however, that should settle down.”
Long queues are also expected at many petrol stations today. El Obeid: “Business and private customers will catch up on what they have not filled up in the past few days.”
