Tanja Groen’s year will be over tomorrow, but the million in tip money is still there

Tomorrow it will be exactly one year ago that Peter R. De Vries, with his foundation De Gouden Tip, promised a million euros for the tip that leads to the missing Tanja Groen. Despite the fact that around a thousand tips came in, the golden tip was not among them. So the reward is still on the shelf and the deadline expires tomorrow.

‘The year of Tanja Groen’, with that term Peter R. de Vries kicked off a year full of searches for the missing Tanja since 1993. On June 23, 2021, Tanja’s birthday and thirteen days before he became shot in the center of AmsterdamDe Vries announced the establishment of the Golden Tip Foundation. A maximum term of one year has been set for the payment of the reward, which expires tomorrow.

1000 tips

About a thousand tips were received in the past year, the foundation reports. Some tips are still being worked out. The amount will then also remain available for all tips that have been received before the 23rd (tomorrow). We are still waiting for the tip that leads to Tanja. The foundation expects all tips to be investigated by the end of the year.

“We realize that the chance of finding Tanja is getting smaller, but we will never give up hope,” said the board of the foundation. “Even though Tanja’s year has passed and the opportunity to claim the reward has expired, Tanja’s parents – Corrie and Adrie Groen – the Limburg cold case team and the Golden Tip Foundation continue to look for Tanja.”

Other cold cases

If the golden tip is not included, the foundation is working hard to find another destination for the money. †We can use the amount for rewards in other cold cases“, said Lex de Jager, lawyer and treasurer at De Gouden Tip Foundation earlier this month by NH News.

The board will announce the new plans in a few weeks’ time and they ‘will continue in line with Peter R. de Vries’ dream to make an ultimate attempt to solve cold cases’.

Tanja’s last party

18-year-old Tanja Groen disappeared on August 31, 1993 in Maastricht. She was going to start a study there and was at a party of her sorority. She was last seen around midnight, when she was packing her bike to go back to her dorm room in the nearby village of Gronsveld. She never got there.

Even after June 23, tipsters can continue to report to the foundation with tips about Tanja.
