Tangarine gives music lessons to children in Assen: ‘Everyone should be able to make music’

Music should be accessible to every child, but that is not self-evident. Podium Zuidhaege in Assen therefore organizes music lessons in which all children can participate. To make the youth enthusiastic, they visited primary schools in Assen together with the band Tangarine.

“You probably know this song. Sing along,” says Sander Brinks to the students of primary school De Heksen boiler in Assen. “One half sings with us and the other half sings aweem away, aweem away.”

Together with twin brother Arnout, with whom he forms the singer-songwriter duo Tangarine, he gives singing lessons to the children today. The well-known duo grew up in Assen and is back in town for this musical party. And that’s not just fun. It also serves an important purpose. “All children should be given the opportunity to engage in music,” says Arnout.

And that is not self-evident, the brothers also know. “When we were young, we didn’t have that option. We couldn’t afford music lessons. That’s why we think it’s extra important to participate in this project,” says the artist.

To ensure that every child in Drenthe can make music, Podium Zuidhaege, Stichting Leergeld and the Jeugdfonds Sport en Cultuur have jointly developed courses. A visit to primary schools in Assen should make the young target group enthusiastic about those lessons.
