Tamara gives birth to a baby on a KLM plane from Educator to Amsterdam. “Both Tamara and Maximiliano are fortunately in good health”

A spokesperson for the airline said on Saturday evening that medical professionals helped with the delivery, “for which we are very grateful. Mother and child are doing well.”

KLM cannot provide any further information for privacy reasons. The Spaarne Gasthuis Haarlem South reports on its website that a mother and a child born in an airplane were admitted this week. According to the hospital, the woman, Tamara, was on her way from Ecuador to Spain by plane, with Schiphol Airport as a stopover.

“A few hours before landing in the Netherlands, she started having problems with her stomach and decided to go to the toilet. To her great surprise, after two contractions, she suddenly had a baby in her hands: son Maximiliano. Tamara had no idea she was pregnant and was quite taken aback by what happened.”

Named after medical professional

According to the Spaarne Gasthuis, there were two doctors and a nurse from Austria on the plane who were able to help the mother after this surprising delivery. The baby is named after one of these people.

After arriving at Schiphol, the two were taken by ambulance to the Spaarne Gasthuis Haarlem South. “Both Tamara and Maximiliano are fortunately in good health,” writes the Spaarne Gasthuis.

,,The team on the birth ward did everything they could to ensure that both received the right care and were helped with the necessary papers for Maximiliano. As soon as possible, Tamara and Maximiliano will continue to Madrid. The Spaarne Gasthuis wishes them well!”
