The 26-year-old Greek track already won a title at the ATP in October of last year. That was in doubles. He then won the European Open in Antwerp with compatriot Botic van de Zandschulp.
Greek track is the twelfth Dutchman ever to win an ATP singles tournament. Due to his performance in Pune, he will rise at least twenty places in the world ranking. Van de Zandschulp, as number 35 the best placed Dutchman, reached his first singles final at the ATP in April last year, but then lost to the Dane Holger Rune in Munich. Van de Zandschulp failed in Pune in the semi-finals against Bonzi.
In the first set of the final it went on for a long time, until the score was 5-4 in favor of Bonzi. Greek track lost his own service game and that immediately cost him the set. But in the second set it was precisely the Dutchman who made the difference towards the end of the set.
