talks between Russia and NATO assessed

Russia is ready to discuss the deployment of strike weapons in Europe, the ball is on NATO’s side, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said at a press conference following a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12 in Brussels. The broadcast was conducted by the TV channel “Russia 24” and media platform “Watching”

“On the issue of strike weapons, we are ready for dialogue. One of the articles of our agreement with NATO envisages refusal to deploy appropriate strike systems in regions from which it is possible to reach the territory of other participating states,” Grushko said. He added that the Russian side is ready to talk not only about these areas, but also about verification measures.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev believes that meeting of the NATO-Russia Council passed in the genre “neither fish nor meat”. He noted that both sides remained unconvinced and suggested that the upcoming negotiations in the OSCE format risk repeating this experience.

According to the senator, there is an impression that the current negotiations with NATO, unlike the previous ones with the Americans, were held in the genre of two monologues

“From the good – and this time NATO members listened to our monologue, and not only we – NATO,” – said Kosachev. However, the parties, apparently, remained unchanged. “Of the very bad things – security in Europe as a result of the consultations held in Brussels has definitely not increased. If only it did not decrease,” Kosachev wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, the senator considers this experience not meaningless, since a drop wears away a stone. He added that Russia is making “every possible and impossible effort” to take away the hopelessness of this process.
