Italian long-distance swimming star Federica Pellegrini ended her long and successful career in November of last year.
He says that he knew how to wait for the end of the disciplined training rhythm to show in his body, but he has also experienced surprises.
– I was terrified of my metabolism, but my body adapted well. At some point my breasts rounded out and it hit me with a stunner. I said to myself, unbelievable, I have breasts! Pellegrini is happy in an interview with the fashion magazine Grazia.
Pellegrini, who turned 34 in August, says that his weight has remained the same, although his physical activity has decreased significantly. However, the muscles have changed into softer forms.
– It’s one thing to train every day, go to the gym three times and in the water ten times a week. It’s another thing to do it two or three times a week or whenever you want. When I stopped scooping with my hands in the water, I noticed a change after three months. And that surprised me.
The last adventure
The Italian, who has won prestigious swimming medals for almost 20 years, now works in his home country at an academy looking for new talents.
– I think of this as my last adventure because it allows me to stay in my environment. This will be a passing of the torch between me and the younger generations. I really believe that I can pass on my passion for water and swimming, says Pellegrini.
Pellegrini hit the top of his sport at the age of 16 at the Athens Olympics by winning silver in the 200-meter freestyle. At the same time, he became Italy’s youngest individual Olympic medalist. Four years later, he swam the same distance to become an Olympic champion.
In his parade sport, Pellegrini has won a record eight consecutive World Cup medals.
