Taking pictures of fatal accident behind the wheel: ‘Bizarre and disrespectful’

Several motorists have taken pictures of the fatal collision that took place on Saturday afternoon on the Backer en Ruebweg in Breda. The police reacted shocked to this on Facebook.

Police were tipped off that several people posted photos and videos of the collision and the assistance provided to the victim on social media. “Bizarre and above all disrespectful!”, emphasizes a spokesperson. A motorcyclist, a 51-year-old man from Oosterhout, was killed in the collision.

‘Filming this is not fun and not smart’
“Think about how you would feel if it concerns a family member or friend of yours. Then the last thing you want is images of your loved one being shared online,” says the spokesperson.

“Posting the images is already a huge step too far. In the first place, those recordings should not be made at all. Taking out your mobile phone to film an incident or accident is not cool, not fun, not interesting and not smart. Just don’t do it!”

Motorists who took pictures of the accident site while driving can expect mail from the Central Judicial Collection Agency.

The car with which the motorcyclist collided on Saturday was driven by a 23-year-old man from Breda. He has been identified as a suspect, police said on Sunday morning. He is stuck.
