Taha (17) films catchy farewell video under rubble earthquake: “I’m dead, if I’m not mistaken” | Abroad

“I think this is the last video I will ever make for you.” They are words that make you silent. They come from Taha Erdem, a 17-year-old boy from Adiyaman, Turkey, who was violently shaken from his bed on February 6. Taha survived the earthquake.

Before he could reach the door, the strong earthquake caused the four-storey apartment block where he lived to collapse. In less than ten seconds everything was over and he was “under 500 kg of rubble”, as he put it.

His feet were jammed and Taha saw the rubble above him getting closer and closer. But as if by miracle, he can still tell the story, just like the rest of his family. “When I saw my family, I didn’t want anything else,” she says. “Everything else became secondary.”
