Taekwondoka Lorena Brandl won the first German women’s world championship medal since 2013 in Guadalajara/Mexico.
In the category over 73 kg, Brandl was only stopped in the semifinals against Dana Azran from Israel. Before that, she had already secured bronze in the quarterfinals against the Brazilian Gabriele Siquera.
Taekwondoka Brandl: “Dream comes true”
“Today a dream is coming true for me. It’s my first World Championship medal and I’m just proud. It was a very special feeling to fight in front of this backdrop,” Brandl commented on her success.
The 25-year-old sports soldier had already written a piece of German Taekwondo history in October when she became the first woman in the German Taekwondo Union (DTU) to win a gold medal in a Grand Prix.
Most recently 2013 World Championship medals by Frömming and Gülec
The last World Cup medals for women were also celebrated in Mexico in 2013. At that time, Anna-Lena Frömming (up to 57 kg) and Rabia Gülec (up to 62 kg) each took bronze in Puebla.
