Tadej Pogacar wins in Montreal

Former Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar has won the eleventh edition of the Canadian one-day race Grand Prix Montréal and is well prepared for the road world championships in around two weeks.

After 221.4 kilometers on the demanding circuit in Montréal, the 23-year-old Slovenian was able to prevail in the sprint of a five-man lead group against Belgian Wout van Aert and Italian Andrea Bagioli.

Fourth was Brit Adam Yates, who won the Germany Tour two weeks ago.

The best German was Georg Zimmermann from Augsburg in 14th place, 36 seconds behind.

On the circuit in Montréal, the professional cyclists had to climb more than 4,000 meters in altitude.
