The German table tennis teams had the hoped-for luck in the preliminary round draw at the World Cup from Friday (September 30th, 2022) in Chengdu, China.
Both teams of the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) received tasks that were easy to solve and can have high hopes of entering the round of 16. The German men’s table tennis national team will meet France, India, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in the preliminary round at the Team World Championships in China.
Boll, Ovtcharov, Franziska and Solja not there
European champion Germany will be without its three top players Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Franziska. The new number one for national coach Jörg Roßkopf’s team is individual European champion Dang Qiu from Borussia Düsseldorf.
The German women will play against Egypt, India and the Czech Republic in the preliminary round. Ex-European Champion Petrissa Solja is absent from the women’s competition due to problems with her discs. For both men and women, the top two in each group advance to the round of 16. In addition, the four best third-placed women qualify for the knockout stage. For men, there are only two group thirds.
