Syrian president visits Arab country again after more than ten years: US fears legitimacy of Assad regime

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met in Dubai on Friday with the ruler of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. It was Assad’s first visit to an Arab state since the start of the Syrian war in 2011. The US said it was “deeply disappointed and alarmed by this apparent attempt to legitimize Assad.”
