Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has arrived in the Chinese city of Hangzhou for a multi-day visit to China. It is his first trip to this country since the outbreak of the civil war in Syria in 2011. According to Assad’s office, the visit follows an official invitation from President Xi Jinping.
