SynBiotic stock soaring: Planned cannabis legalization boosts German marijuana stock

Cannabis consumption should be legal in Germany by the turn of the year at the latest. On Wednesday in Berlin, the federal cabinet launched the relevant draft law for partial legalization of cannabis. Cannabis companies are particularly benefiting from this.

The SynBiotic share continues to expand its weekly profit in XETRA trading. In the meantime, it has gone up 8.28 percent to EUR 6.80. On a weekly basis, there have been more than 40 percent price gains on the board so far.

However, the value seems to be characterized by volatility: the 52-week range moves between EUR 3.39 and EUR 16.

The reason for the recent price increases are the government plans to legalize cannabis.

Green light for weed: cannabis legalization on the way

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach spoke of a “turnaround in drug policy” and was convinced that this would curb the black market, fight drug-related crime and increase health protection. Opponents of the project renewed their criticism and warned of health risks, especially for young people.

The traffic light project still has to go through the Bundestag and Bundesrat. According to Lauterbach, however, it does not require approval in the state chamber and can therefore not be stopped. The law will come into force on January 1st, 2024. He believes that this is the best attempted legalization of cannabis so far, said the SPD politician, referring to other countries where the drug has already been approved.

The plans include removing cannabis from the list of prohibited substances in the Narcotics Act. Possession of 25 grams should be allowed for adults over the age of 18. A maximum of three cannabis plants should be allowed to be grown privately. In special associations, so-called cannabis clubs, members should be able to grow plants together and give the drug to each other. This should remove the basis for the black market and also prevent people from buying street dealers products that may contain toxic substances or products where the concentration of the active ingredient is unclear.

According to the plans, smoking is not allowed in the clubs, not even in the immediate vicinity of the clubs and not near daycare centers, schools, sports facilities or playgrounds. In pedestrian zones there should be a ban on consumption between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Elsewhere in public, however, clouds of cannabis smoke are likely to be smelled more often in the future.

Survey: One in two more likely to approve cannabis

According to a survey, every second voter in Germany finds cannabis legalization a good thing in principle. In a recent YouGov survey, 50 percent of respondents said they were “somewhat” or “strongly” in favor of legalization in principle. 40 percent reject such a plan “completely” or “rather”. 10 percent said they “don’t know” or gave no answer. The agreement has increased slightly compared to the last survey in May. According to the survey institute, 47 percent were in favor of releasing the drug at the time.

However, three quarters of those currently surveyed (75 percent) consider it important for cannabis legalization to be accompanied by educational campaigns about the risks of consumption for young people under the age of 18. 68 percent think such campaigns should even be a prerequisite for legalization.
