Switzerland not yet sure of European Championship after Israel’s late equalizer, Belgium records practice victory | Foreign football

Switzerland has not yet qualified for next summer’s European Championships in Germany. They lost a victory over Israel in the final phase (1-1). Substitute Shon Zalman Weissman equalized in the 88th minute. Ruben Vargas opened the scoring in the 36th minute for the Swiss, who finished the game with ten men. Edimilson Fernandes received a red card in injury time.

Switzerland and Romania now lead the group with 16 points. Israel follows with 12 points. The last two rounds are scheduled for November 18 and 21. The best two teams in the group can go to the European Championships. Israel still plays against Romania and Andorra.

Israel received Switzerland in Felcsút, the village where Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán grew up. National coach Alon Hazan’s team cannot play football in their own country due to the war with Hamas. Israel has never qualified for a European Championship. Switzerland was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the last European final round two years ago.

Belgium

Belgium has won an exhibition match against Serbia. A goal from Yannick Carrasco in the 2nd minute was enough for a narrow victory (1-0). Belgium and Serbia met in Leuven without an audience because the field of the King Baudouin Stadium is unplayable after persistent rain. Belgium expects to be able to play in Brussels again next Sunday. The Red Devils will then face Azerbaijan in the qualifying tournament for next year’s European Championship in Germany. Belgium has already qualified for the European final round.

National coach Domenico Tedesco of Belgium took the opportunity to see many young players at work. Matz Sels and Yannick Carrasco were the only thirty-somethings in his starting line-up. PSV striker Johan Bakayoko also had a starting place for the Belgians. He made way for Dodi Lukebakio at halftime. Nemanja Gudelj wore the captain’s armband for Serbia, where Dusan Tadic came on in the 67th minute.
