Switzerland at the European Handball Championships without defense chief Röthlisberger

The Swiss national handball team has to do without Bundesliga professional Samuel Röthlisberger from TVB Stuttgart at the European Championships in Germany. The defense chief suffered a ligament injury in his hand and has to undergo surgery. At the tournament on January 10th, Switzerland will face the German team in the opening game in front of more than 53,000 spectators in Düsseldorf.

“This injury comes at the stupidest possible moment,” said Röthlisberger, who will be out for around six weeks: “It was my big dream to play in the European Championships in Germany, the country where I have been playing handball for seven years – especially the opening game against the Germans against this backdrop.” He worked towards this for a long time: “The dream has now burst and that is of course bitter.”

Dimitrij Küttel, an established Swiss backcourt player, had to miss the European Championships from January 10th to 28th due to an inner ligament injury in his left knee.
