DOW JONES–Price losses by the index heavyweights – above all Roche – pushed the Swiss stock market into negative territory on Thursday. The US-Chinese customs conflict and the budget dispute in the USA continued to weigh on the mood. The current balance sheet season brought movement to individual stocks.
The SMI lost 0.5 percent to 12,557 points. Of the 20 SMI values, there were eleven price winners and nine losers. 14.7 (previously: 19.51) million shares were sold.
Roche prices fell by 3.2 percent. Although the pharmaceutical company met expectations overall with its quarterly results, it was not convincing in all respects. The fact that the company raised its outlook didn’t help. Novartis shares fell 0.3 percent.
The figures from pharmaceutical contract manufacturer Lonza were very well received, with their share price rising by 2.5 percent. In the second row, the quarterly reports from the skin care specialist Galderma (+2.5%) and the goods testing group SGS (+2.1%) were convincing.
Profit-taking continued at Nestle (-1.5%). The food company’s shares benefited greatly from the new CEO’s restructuring plans last week.
