Although the Swiss economy stagnated in the fourth quarter of 2022, it is likely to have ended the year with solid growth despite the consequences of the Russian war against Ukraine. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs presented an initial estimate of 2.1 percent growth on Tuesday. In 2021 it was 4.2 percent, partly because of the catch-up effects after the first year of Corona.
War, inflation and high energy prices slowed down industry and exports in the fourth quarter. In Germany, however, demand has developed solidly. The growth rate of real gross domestic product (GDP) was 0.0 percent from October to December. In the 3rd quarter it was plus 0.2 percent. (dpa)
