‘Swishing, waving and turning around’ will be officially on the heritage list tomorrow

Who was not brought up with it: the fair. It was announced a few months ago, but from tomorrow it is officially intangible cultural heritage. During the fair in Weert, Limburg, the fair is officially added to the heritage list. And that status is important for the showmen. It should ensure livelihoods in the future.

This afternoon the fair at De Brink in Roden starts slowly. The oliebollen go into the deep-fat fryer, the whirligig turns around and visitors roam the grounds. While it is simply a fun party weekend for visitors, there is an extra festive touch for the operators. Although the fair customer will not notice that much.

“If it had been on a different day, yes, but tomorrow it will be the Rodermarkt parade and it will be very busy here,” explains fair operator Chris Spelbrink. “But at a later moment we will really draw attention to it.”
