Swimming World Championship: Punzel just missed a medal from the three-meter board

Water jumper Tina Punzel took fourth place at the World Championships in Budapest. The 26-year-old received 315.60 points for her five jumps in the competition from the three-meter board on Saturday evening (July 2nd, 2022). She was 10.25 points short of bronze.

As expected, the Chinese Olympic champion Chen Yiwen secured the victory ahead of the Canadian Mia Vallee. The third place on the podium went to Chang Yani from China.

I really enjoyed jumping here“, said Punzel, who hardly made any mistakes and was very satisfied with her performance. “I was great in my tunnel, I was able to concentrate on my priorities and found a great rhythm. As the saying goes, you’re just in the flow. And then of course it’s fun when you notice it’s going.”

Water jumper Barthel missed the World Cup final from the tower

Timo Barthel had previously missed the tower final. The 26-year-old finished 14th in the semifinals. The top twelve jumpers qualified for the final battle. Barthel received 366.20 points for his six jumps. China’s Yang Hao, who was victorious in the semifinals, received 520.30 points. The second German starter in the competition from a height of ten meters, Jaden Eikermann, was eliminated in the prelim.

A medal for German water jumpers

Before the last day of the World Championships, the German jumpers are still at a medal in the Hungarian capital. On June 26, Timo Barthel and Lars Rüdiger won bronze in synchronized diving from the three-meter board.

The second German finalist Lena Hentschel took twelfth place. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Punzel and Hentschel won bronze in synchronized jumping from the three-meter board. In this discipline they will compete again together at the end of the World Championships on Sunday. “We’ll definitely attack again tomorrow”said Punch. “The goal is to fight for the bronze medal.”
