Only 15-year-old Summer McIntosh has been crowned world champion in the 200 meter butterfly in Budapest.

The Canadian swimmer also set a junior world record in 2:05.20 thanks to a strong final sprint. It was her second medal at the World Championships in the Hungarian capital. She won silver in the 400m freestyle.

In the butterfly race on Wednesday (06/22/2022) she relegated the American Hali Flickinger and Zhang Yufei from China to second and third place.

Setback for Anna Elendt

Anna Elendt suffered a setback on her way to becoming the absolute world champion at the swimming world championships. The silver medalist in the 100-meter breaststroke was surprisingly eliminated in the 200-meter heat. The woman from Frankfurt only took seventh place in her run, was 23rd overall and beat her German record by more than five seconds with a time of 2:30.08 minutes. The evening session on Wednesday will therefore take place without German participation.

“After the silver medal, I was a bit out of breath, and with the relay races on Monday I’ve had five starts. That was a bit much,” said the 20-year-old and now wants to focus entirely on the 50-meter breaststroke on Friday. “Before that, I’ll get a good night’s sleep, then I’ll take a walk across Margaret Island and see what’s available here. There’s supposed to be a petting zoo, maybe I’ll go there,” said misery.

Synchronized swimmer Bojer reaches the final

Synchronized swimmer Marlene Bojer is one of the ten best in the world in the solo free program competition. Thanks to a strong performance at the world title fights in Budapest, the woman from Munich scored 84.2000 points on Wednesday and thus finished tenth. It was both the highest number of points and the best World Championship result by a German athlete since the technical and free program were separated in 2007.

Popovici wins the 100 meter freestyle

In the 100-meter freestyle race, the main protagonist was also young and very fast. 17-year-old David Popovici of Romania won in 47.58 seconds ahead of Frenchman Maxime Grousset and Joshua Liendo Edwards of Canada. Popovici had already secured the title over double the distance on Monday.
