Swimming pool evacuated due to smoke, 250 bathers sheltered in sports hall

The Ir. Ottenbad on Vijfkamplaan in Eindhoven was evacuated around half past eleven on Sunday morning after smoke was released there. There were about 250 people in the pool at the time.

The bathers were welcomed in a sports hall nearby.

Malfunction
It turned out that there was a malfunction in the technical installation. Together with installation experts, the fire brigade looked for the exact cause and the options for solving the malfunction.

There was no immediate danger to the environment. The situation in the pool has been stable since half past twelve in the afternoon. Under the supervision of the emergency response team, visitors can collect their belongings and go home. The swimming pool remains closed on Sunday. According to an operator, the pool will reopen at seven o’clock on Monday morning.
