The swimming lake Tussenboerslanden in Nijeveen is being tackled. The Municipality of Meppel has promised this to the Village Association. He is very happy with it, because it is “one big molehill with loiterers.”
The village association organized a survey among the inhabitants of Nijeveen. It emerged that there is a lot of dissatisfaction in the village about the swimming lake. Residents feel unsafe there, says Klaas Neutel of the village association. “There are youth who make other people feel unsafe,” said Neutel. “A lot happens, especially in the afternoon and evening. Families no longer feel safe and therefore stay at home. Improving safety is an important point and the municipality says it is going to work on that.”
In addition, there will be an improved maintenance plan. “Because we regularly find broken glass, we hope this will happen less if cleaning is done more often,” says Neutel, who has also asked for mole control. “The municipality is now going to place traps, because the lawn is one big molehill.”
More shade must be created with new trees in the lawn. A walking path is also being made so that people can walk around the water. That is not possible now because the adjacent sports field is often closed. “While people do like a walk,” Neutel thinks. “It just has to become a nicer place. We are located exactly between Steenwijk and Meppel and therefore have a function for the entire region. In summer the row of cyclists here is huge and hundreds of sunbathers come to the Tussenboerslanden to cool off. very nice as Nijeveen, but we want to offer them and our own villagers a little more than we can now.”
