Swimming, Ceccon wins the 100 backstroke in the Cup in Athens

Thomas wins again in his specialty in 52″73 and takes revenge on the South African Coetze, who had beaten him in the 200. So far 5 successes for the world record holder

@sarcobelli

Thomas Ceccon’s fifth World Cup victory came in Athens in the 100m backstroke, the specialty of the world record (51″60) set a year ago in Budapest (next and final stage of the 2023 circuit). Thomas, who had Berlin’s 52″27 as a reference, won in 52″73, passing to the 50 in 25″57. For the world record he passed the 50 in 25 ”14. Another race to try and test oneself in the world-Olympic season: the 22-year-old from Vicenza rejects the South African Pieter Coetze (thus taking revenge in the 200), author of 53″49 after the turn at 25″75, and the Greek Apostolos Christou, European champion of the 50 in Rome, in 53″61, under the podium the Japanese Ryosuke Irie in 54″05. Burlina’s student will find ideas for the first pool and the transition, but this autumn start is certainly flattering for the season: “Pressure? It’s not my best time, I’m here to improve and compete against these guys” he said at the poolside.

Martinenghi sixth

In the 200m breaststroke Nicolò Martinenghi was sixth in 2’12”50 (Tete has a personal best of 2’10”19 in his specialty). The unbeaten streak of the Chinese world three-time champion Qin Haiyang continues, with a time of 2’08″05: his compatriot Dong Zhihao 2’09″18 and the Dutch Caspar Corbeau (2’09″35) and Arno Kamminga (2’09″94) have been beaten ). The best of the day: Haughey in the 100 freestyle, Rapsys in the 200 freestyle, Zhang Yufei in the 100 dolphin, McKeown in the 200 backstroke, the Egyptian surprise Sameh in the 50 dolphin, the Australian Pallister in the 1500, Meilutyte in the 50 breaststroke, Pickrem 2’09” in the 200 medley.
