A 22-year-old man from Echt died tonight after being taken from the sea near Velsen-Noord by rescue services. The search for the missing swimmer started around 6:15 pm and lasted about an hour and a half.
Several vessels and a police helicopter searched for the drowning person this evening. The man was found and retrieved from the water, where he was unsuccessfully resuscitated.
The victim was on the beach with family members before entering the water for a swim. Police say his loved ones were with him during CPR.
According to a police spokesperson, everything indicates that the man drowned and that it is a fatal accident.
