Iga Swiatek will not participate in the Charleston clay tournament next week. The Polish, from Monday the new number 1 in the world, is ramping up an arm injury before her withdrawal.
The 20-year-old Swiatek captured the title on Saturday at the major WTA tournament in Miami. She defeated Japan’s Naomi Osaka 6-4 6-0 in the final battle. Swiatek has already won 17 games in a row. She was also the best in Indian Wells two weeks ago.
On Monday’s world ranking, Swiatek relieves the Australian Ashleigh Barty as the number 1. Barty ended her tennis career a week and a half ago.
