Iga Swiatek has won Roland Garros for the second time in her tennis career. In the final of the grand slam tournament in Paris, the Polish was too strong for Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff on Saturday 6-1 and 6-3. The 18-year-old super talent from the United States played her first Grand Slam final, but did not seriously claim victory in her match against the number one in the world ranking.
Swiatek (21) apparently went into the match more relaxed than Gauff. After fifteen minutes of play, she was already leading 3-0, and had broken her opponent twice. Later in the set she added a third break, so that she won the first set 6-1 against the somewhat sloppy playing Gauff.
Only in the beginning of the second set Gauff revived. She broke Swiatek, who started making some mistakes, right in the first game. She also won on her own serve. It was her last game to win for the time being: Swiatek regained her precision, immediately punished every mistake by Gauff and won five games in a row. Gauff held her own service game one more time, after which Swiatek immediately used her first match point a game later. As Swiatek celebrated her win, Gauff sat by the track with tears in his eyes.

In 2020, Swiatek won her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. At the time, that was a total surprise: as an unseeded 19-year-old, she did not lose a set throughout the tournament, while she defeated top favorite Simona Halep, among others. Last year she stranded at Roland Garros in the quarterfinals.
Gauff also made the last eight on the Parisian clay in 2021. Until the current edition of Roland Garros, it was her best performance at a grand slam tournament. She made her name at Wimbledon in 2019, when she eliminated tennis legend Venus Williams at the age of fifteen.
