Swiatek and Alcaraz reach 3rd round of US Open – Breaking Tennis news



The tournament held in New York City continued with morning session matches on the 4th day.


Polish Swiatek, two-time grand slam champion, faced 51st place USA’s Sloane Stephens in the second round match. Defeating his opponent 2-0 with 6-3 and 6-2 sets, Swiatek matched with another US tennis player Lauren Davis in the 3rd round.


World 54th place Croatian Petra Martic beat Spain’s Paula Badosa (seeded 4) with a score of 2-1 (6-7, 6-1, 6-2) and scored the surprise of the day.


In women’s singles, Jessica Pegula (8), Garbine Muguruza (9), Belinda Bencic (13), Petra Kvitova (21) and Victoria Azarenka (26) also reached the 3rd round.

3rd seeded Spanish singles Carlos Alcaraz defeated Argentina’s 78 number one Federico Coria 3-0 with sets that ended 6-2, 6-1 and 7-5 and advanced to the 3rd round.


Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie (7) continued on her way by winning 3-0 (6-4, 6-4, 7-6) in front of world 59 Joao Sousa of Portugal.


Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev defeated South Korean Kwon Soon-woo, who was in the 81st place in the classification, 3-0 with sets ending 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4 and made his name to the 3rd round.


In the third round, Carlos Alcaraz-Jenson Brooksby and Cameron Norrie-Holger Rune pairings occurred. Andrey Rublev will face the winner of the match between Denis Shapovalov and Roberto Carballes Baena.


Also, Jannik Sinner (11), Marin Cilic (15) and Daniel Evans (20) in the men’s singles reached the 3rd round.
