Sweepstakes: Blu-rays of “King Richard”

Although the drama is based on the true story of tennis father Richard Williams, who aims to bring his two daughters, Venus and Serena, to the top of the sport, King Richard is not actually a tennis film. “It’s a film about family, about faith, love and triumph,” the press release reads.

The six-Oscar-nominated and one-Oscar-winning flick will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K ULTRA HD on May 19th. It will be available digitally from May 10th.

For the home cinema launch of the sports drama with Will Smith, we are giving away three Blu-rays of “King Richard”.

From the suburbs to the world’s best in tennis

Richard Williams, played by Will Smith, who won an Oscar for the role, has never played tennis himself. Nevertheless, he fights furiously for the careers of his two daughters. The action takes place in the Californian suburb of Compton, which is actually not known for producing celebrities. But Richard, who wants nothing more for his children than a promising future, believes in Venus and Serena and even trains them himself at first. Venus Williams is played by 15-year-old actress Saniyya Sidney, her sister plays Demi Singleton, also 15 years old old. On their way to the top, the sisters must prevail against gangs that claim the local tennis court as their turf, learn the ins and outs of the sport at its best, and transcend the age-old lines of race and class.

Also involved were actress Aunjanue Ellis as mother and wife “Brandy”, “Destiny” actor Tony Goldwyn as coach Paul Cohen and Jon Bernthal, known from “The Walking Dead” in the role of tennis coach Rick Macci.

Will Smith took on the starring role and producing

It is directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who most recently worked on Monsters and Man and Good Joe Bell. Will Smith was involved in the project not only as an actor, but also served as the film’s producer. The screenplay is based on the autobiography “Black and White” by Richard Williams, who recently commented on Will Smith’s slap in the face of Chris Rock at the Oscars: He said he did not know all the details of the case, but would not condone “that someone hits another, unless it is in self-defense.”

We are giving away three Blu-rays for the film. Simply fill out the form and enter “King Richard” as the answer. The closing date for entries is April 30, 2022. The legal process is excluded.
