Four people linked to “violent Islamic extremism” and plotting attacks have been arrested in Sweden. The Swedish intelligence service (Sapo) reported this.
The four were arrested during an operation carried out in collaboration with the police. Several locations were searched, it said. Among other things, a building of an Islamic organization in a suburb of Stockholm was searched, according to local media.
The four “are suspected of preparing terrorist acts and serious weapons violations. The case concerns violent Islamic extremism,” the security service said, adding that there were also links with organized crime.
The Public Prosecution Service confirmed the arrests in a statement and said an investigation was underway, led by a prosecutor from the security unit.
