The 18-year-old ice hockey world championships had a very exciting decision.
First in the afternoon, in the bronze medal match, Canada and Slovakia provided drama that went to overtime, which the Maple Leafs eventually took.
In the treat of the evening, i.e. in the final match, Sweden was on its way, when it took a 2–0 lead against the United States.
Sweden’s advantage remained at two goals going into the final set. Then the United States woke up. It managed to level the scores in the 57th minute of the game, when Cole Eiserman shot very accurately past the puck by the tournament’s best goalkeeper Noah Erliden behind.
There was another overtime ahead, for which Sweden had a short-lived superiority. When it didn’t come to fruition, minutes later the United States Ryan Leonard scored the championship goal.
Sweden had to settle for silver. It only lost this match in the entire tournament, which it started with an 8–0 demolition of Canada. USA never lost.
In this spring’s tournament, Finland missed the quarter-finals, where Slovakia was better.
