The summer of athletics 2022 will soon roll over as interesting and eventful. It will end on the first weekend of September with a legendary match in Sweden.
Finnish athletes are fighting against their western neighbor again at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
– We will defeat Sweden, so the chairman dares to say, laughs the chairman of SUL Sami Itani.
The athletics match is competed alternately in Finland and Sweden. The three most recent national matches in Finland have been held in Tampere.
The last time the match was played at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium in 2014.

There is a lot new in the Swedish match. The renovated Olympic Stadium offers opportunities for a good event for both athletes and spectators.
– We have a renewed concept for the event, respecting traditions, of course. The stadium is reportedly the world’s fastest Mondo. That’s when it’s tested for the first time, Itani glows.
– The facilities for the public are on top of the latter, quite different from before the renovation.
The competition days for the Swedish match are September 3rd and 4th. The big stars of the western neighbor, the puck giant, have promised Daniel Ståhl as well as a butler Armand Duplantis.

The Diamond League kicks off on May 13 in Doha. The sports include women’s 100-meter fences, men’s spear and women’s triple jump.
Itani also believes in the success of the Finns in the events of the coming summer.
– I’m very optimistic. Our national team has a really strong and wide development curve. There are young, top-talented athletes with the best years yet to come.
– This summer is the first march of the new generation and I believe that it will also be realized as medals. At least at the European Championships. And in the future also in the global competitions, says Itani.
