Swarovski signs a five-year contract with Climeworks, the leading company in the field of CO2 reduction and looks to the future with its 127-year history.
As part of Swarovski’s strategic effort to reduce, mitigate and offset greenhouse gases, Climeworks will capture cumulative CO2 emissions for Swarovski from ambient air. A zero-carbon climate strategy essentially means committing today to a significant reduction in carbon emissions without removing the pollution accumulated to date. But both reduction and removal and offsetting are necessary methods to achieve the climate goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
To ensure that the procedure for reducing greenhouse gases can be verified, Swarovski joined the Science Based Targets initiative last year. As part of this, the Group committed to reducing its own Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions (direct and indirect emissions from its own operations) by 47% by 2030, as well as Scope 3 emissions (indirect emissions from non-own operations). operation) by 28%.
Michele Molon, CEO ad interim at Swarovski, explains: “In 2021 we further developed our sustainability strategy, with a focus on climate protection. We believe that a scientific basis is essential to understanding and effecting change. For this reason, we have further strengthened our commitment by participating in the Science Based Targets initiative. By signing this agreement with Climeworks to remove CO2 from the air, we take a step further in our journey to tackle one of the planet’s most pressing problems.”
In order to significantly reduce its environmental footprint, Swarovski is investing significantly in more efficient manufacturing methods, further reducing energy consumption in all new stores and using more sustainable materials in the procurement of products, packaging and architecture. Comprehensive initiatives are also intended to have a positive impact on the transport of goods and on other steps along the value chain.
Innovation is a key component in the ongoing fight against climate change. Through this new agreement with Climeworks, Swarovski wants to lead by example and inspire others to do the same for a carbon neutral world.

ABOUT CLIMEWORKS
Climeworks makes it possible to reverse climate change by permanently removing carbon dioxide from the air. The CO2 extracted from the air is then either pumped under the earth’s surface and stored there safely and permanently for millions of years. Or it is upcycled into climate-friendly products, such as carbon-neutral fuels and materials. Climeworks direct air capture technology is powered exclusively by clean energy and the modular CO2 collectors can be assembled into machines of any size. Founded by engineers Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher, Climeworks aims to inspire 1 billion people to act now and remove CO2 from the air.
