Sports director Christian Heidel sees the criticism of coach Bo Svensson at the start of the season of the Bundesliga soccer club FSV Mainz 05 in two ways.
“He always puts his finger in the wound and warns early on if there are things he doesn’t like. And despite eleven points, there was a lot,” Heidel told the “Bild” newspaper: “At the same time, we have to be careful that the Expectations from the outside don’t get too high.”
After the 1-1 draw at home to Hertha BSC last weekend, Svensson was not satisfied with the start of the season. “What we delivered overall in this first phase of the season was not enough in terms of content,” said the coach. Mainz is eighth in the table after seven games.
Heidel himself spoke of a “good start to the season, especially since our opponents weren’t windfall”. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Hertha, for example, are “all clubs that we can’t keep up with financially,” emphasized the 59-year-old: “And the biggest compliment to ourselves is that, despite everything, we’re still with our performance were often unsatisfied.”
