Sportswoman of the Year was Anna van der Breggen. De Meppel has since retired as a professional, but was still part of the international cycling top last year. She won Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, the Waalse Pijl and the Giro Rosa. She also became Dutch time trial champion and took bronze at the Olympic Games (time trial). In 2019 the prize also went to a cyclist, when Lieke Nooijen from the municipality of Coevorden took the title.
For the election of sportsman and woman of the year, there were nine contenders in both categories tonight, spread over all municipalities of Drenthe.
