“If the Netherlands is under internationally under the Netherlands. On the one hand, that is not surprising. If you are so dominant in 2014, then you are logically also the country that is being hunted.”
Nevertheless, Kramer is of the opinion that action should be taken at the Nederlands Schaatsbond (KNSB). “The Dutch skating landscape is due for restructuring. I am not in favor of how the landscape is now equipped for talent development, I am even worried.”
Tey owner Sven Kramer is working towards his first Olympic Games in new role: ‘It will never be easy’
Kramer explains what he means. “Hard and a lot of training is no longer sexy in contemporary society. Neither anymore. But that is part of winning and top sport. In fact, it is an essential part.”
That is why Kramer hopes, with a view to the future, that something will change. “It is time that critically and with some self -reflection is looked at why we conquer less gold medals. Currently, the union is more diplomatic than that winning is the first. That does not work. We now get those consequences back, including interest.”
