Despite the automatic extension of his contract through promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, Sven Köhler is leaving VfL Osnabrück. The 26-year-old midfielder is moving to Denmark to join first division club Odense BK. He signed a contract that is valid until June 30, 2026, Odense announced on Saturday. His employment relationship with the people of Osnabrück had previously been terminated.
“We did not force Sven’s change, we would have liked to have continued to develop him as part of the team in Osnabrück,” said VfL sports director Amir Shapourzadeh in a statement from Lower Saxony. However, interest in Köhler was high both nationally and from clubs abroad, “so that we have found a solution that is satisfactory for all parties”. VfL did not provide any information on the transfer modalities.
Sven Köhler will no longer appear for VfL in the coming season, he is moving to the Danish first division club Odense BK. The contract was terminated after both clubs agreed on transfer terms.
