Sven Kockelmann occasionally causes annoyance not only among his interview guests, but also among his good friends. For example, program maker Fons de Poel even threatened to ‘beat him in the mouth’.
Fons de Poel can call himself the discoverer of Sven Kockelmann; he brought it in at Brandpunt in the early nineties. “Sven was 23 at the time,” the TV maker tells in Veronica Superguide. He was immediately impressed by his talent. “I felt: This is a potential sorcerer’s apprentice.”

He still maintains a good relationship with Sven, although the two gentlemen don’t see each other much. “I still keep in touch with Sven from time to time. That’s nice. I think he is a special guy.”
Recently, Fons held an interview with Sven. “I am writing a book about discomfort. I recently interviewed Sven about this as well. Sven is a good interviewer, he often uses discomfort to get things done.”
“Slap your mouth!”
Fons thinks it’s a shame that Sven never makes time for him. “Sven has been inviting me to his home for fifteen years. ‘Shall we have something to eat soon? Then I’ll cook for you.’ But it has never come to that, because when push comes to shove, he is way too busy.”
Fons therefore threatened Sven. “The last time he asked, a few years ago, I said, ‘If you ask this one more time, I’ll kick your ass.’ It’s always the same: Sven can invite whatever he wants, because he doesn’t have time anyway. Too bad, because Sven is a good cook. Apparently…”
